Nicolas Maillart
Champagne Nicolas Maillart is a family estate with deep roots in the Montagne de Reims, tracing its winemaking tradition back to 1753. Today, the estate is proudly managed by the ninth generation of the Maillart family, with Nicolas Maillart himself, an engineer and oenologist, bringing a fresh perspective since his return in 2003. The vineyard spans 15 hectares, where Pinot Noir reigns supreme, making up 65% of the plantings, complemented by Chardonnay, Pinot Meunier, and the rare Petit Meslier, which Nicolas has successfully reintroduced to the estate. The winemaking philosophy at Nicolas Maillart emphasizes precision and individuality. Each grape is vinified separately, allowing the unique characteristics of the terroir to shine. The focus on careful harvesting, controlled yields, and minimal intervention—avoiding malolactic fermentation and employing very light sulphuring—results in champagnes that are rich and expressive. With a commitment to long aging—around nine months—Nicolas Maillart crafts wines that reflect a distinct sense of place, establishing him as one of the emerging talents in the world of Champagne.
